Daily

A Daily (also known as Daily Scrum) is a short daily meeting within the Scrum development process, where the Scrum team discusses the progress of the project and aligns the plan for the day. The Daily is an important component of Scrum as it aims to promote collaboration and communication within the team to ensure that the team stays on track and any obstacles can be addressed.

The Daily is time-limited and usually lasts no longer than 15 minutes.

During the meeting, everyone in the Scrum team answers three questions:

1. What have I achieved since the last Daily?
2. What will I achieve by the next Daily?
3. Are there any obstacles preventing me from completing my work?

By answering these questions, the team can monitor the project's progress, identify issues, and collaboratively develop solutions to overcome obstacles and advance the project.

Essentially, the meeting is intended solely for the Scrum team. Other individuals such as stakeholders or managers should typically not attend to ensure that the team can communicate openly and honestly.

At Beyonder, we slightly deviate from the original Scrum definition concerning the participants. Here, both the Product Owner and Scrum Master try to participate in the Daily as often as possible. We do this because our experience has shown that there are often smaller content-related questions for the PO, and also because the Scrum Master can effectively coach the team in terms of effectiveness during the Daily and provide valuable insights during planning. Otherwise, our Daily proceeds as expected according to the Scrum Guide.

The Daily is an important practice in agile software development as it helps improve teamwork and increases transparency and progress of the project. Below are some reasons why the Daily is part of everyday life at Beyonder.
