(Web-) Browser

A browser is a computer program that displays documents and data. If this document is a website (HTML file or hypertext documents) on the World Wide Web, it is called a web browser. Essentially, it's nothing more than a user interface!

"To browse" means to browse or also to peruse; it fits quite well with what you usually intend to do when you open a (web) browser to dive into the depths of the internet.

What browsers are there?

There are many browsers, the most well-known are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. They are all built similarly, more or less:
Usually, after opening, a search engine or an internet portal appears on a tab. To display desired content, there is an address bar where you can enter a web address (the so-called URL). To navigate through different (sub-)pages, you use the back and forward buttons, and with a plus symbol button, you can open as many tabs as you like for new web searches/displays (keyword “Mom, why is your computer so slow…?”).
With so-called plug-ins, additional core functions can be added to the browser individually.

Google Chrome in 1st place

According to StatCounter, a company that monitors the market share of web browsers, Google Chrome has held the largest browser market share for years. In February 2023, the market share of Google Chrome was approximately 64.54%, followed by Apple Safari with 15.91% and Mozilla Firefox with 9.13%. Microsoft Edge currently ranks fourth with a market share of 6.23%, followed by Opera with 1.18%. However, it should be noted that browser market shares can vary depending on the region and device.
