HOW DIMS TRAILER MANAGEMENT IS TRANSFORMED WITH DATA AND AI

Through a smart combination of intelligent sensors, real-time data insights, and advanced AI techniques, the platform offers more than just trailer tracking. It predicts when maintenance is needed, enabling the transporter to save costs and increase efficiency. The cost savings for the transporter are evident: just think of the profit from changing tires at the right time (neither too early nor too late).

How do I know when to service a truck trailer?

This question was asked to DIMS by a transporter who wasn’t sure how many kilometers a trailer had traveled. We are all familiar with the sight of abandoned trailers parked by the side of the road. Transporters always know the current location, mileage, and route of trucks thanks to the mandatory tachograph. So, why not the trailers?

With this information, it would be much easier for transporters to schedule trailer maintenance at the right time. This would save both costs and time. Just think of the cost savings from not replacing tires too early. Or the time savings when a service can be performed during the mandatory rest period on a longer route.

The solution

Beyonder designed and implemented the smart platform for DIMS, including the web portal and mobile apps. We also extensively tested the (im)possibilities of various sensors together with DIMS. DIMS now uses a variety of sensors across different networks (e.g., LoRa, SigFox, and 2g/4g) to track valuable "devices."

INNOVATIVE FEATURES

Location Tracking

The trailers are equipped with sensors that regularly send location data. DIMS' sensor-independent platform (web platform, iOS, and Android app) provides insights into the locations the trailer has been to. DIMS can also send a push notification when a trailer leaves a location or arrives at a new one.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

To stand out from other providers offering similar location tracking solutions, the decision was made to incorporate Artificial Intelligence techniques. The data measured and communicated by the sensors is processed using AI into actionable insights. For example, it predicts when a trailer will reach a certain number of miles. This enables better anticipation of the trailer's maintenance needs.

Sensor-Independent

An added challenge: sensors, the platform, and big data can operate independently of each other. For example, if a transporter already has sensors in place, they can still use the platform.

Industry Independent

The platform and sensors are fundamentally industry-independent and can be relatively easily applied to other uses. They are now also being used for containers.
